The Spelling Bee, hot new reality competition will be introduced on Princess Cruises newest ship Crown Princess, as part of entertainment option for both an adult and kids version. Followed by dramatic increase in popularity this scholarly sport will be available in two-d ay challenge to test passenger’s skills, escalating word difficulty and suspense-rich elimination rounds. Events will take place in Princess Theater and winners will have opportunity to enjoy their 15 minutes of fame when finals will be shown in Movies Under the Stars outdoor film venue. Special edition dictionary with ship’s captain signature will be awarded too.
The whole event is inspired by popular movie Akeelah and the Bee and Bee Season (based on the best selling novel by Myla Goldberg), as well as the Tony award winner Broadway musical The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.
With this exciting, new feature Princess Cruises takes one step further in initiative to offer their passengers a chance to try new activities that they may have get their interest on land, but never had a chance to pursue.
As Jan Swartz, Princess' senior vice president of customer service and sales says: "While on our ships, our passengers love to try their hand at everything from pottery and scrap booking to cooking, ballroom dancing, web design, photography, golf and more. And the best part about our new 'Bee at Sea' competition is...if not aboard Princess, then where will they try it? Spelling bees for entertainment and enjoyment are not offered in many places."
Princess tested the whole concept last month aboard ship Caribbean Princess, and the feedback of passengers was extremely positive.
The Bee at Sea competitions will start on the Princess fleet in July. Crown Princess will be the first ship to have this program on its inaugural voyage on June 14th 2007.
